Dairy and milk sector in Poland

Tags :

Polish dairy exports have increased almost fourfold since Poland’s EU accession. The latest report by the Team for Monitoring International Agricultural Markets of the Foundation of Assistance Programs for Agriculture notes that Poland’s foreign trade in dairy products has been increasing continually since 2010. Last year producers sold goods worth over 1.7 billion euros to foreign markets, or almost 3.4 percent more than in 2011. This is the highest level in history

The EU states were the biggest importers of the Polish milk products in 2013 as they accounted for nearly 73% of the total, show the data of the agricultural market agency ARR. Developing economies (some 13%) and CIS states (about 11%) followed.

Poland is a giant in of the world cheese market. Only the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy make more cheese. The biggest buyers of cheese from Poland are EU countries (70 percent in value terms). Last year cheese in all its varieties was the top export item and its share in total dairy export value grew from 35.4 to 38.9 percent.

Second on the list of export hits is still milk powder, mainly skimmed milk powder. A high growth rate of over 28% and over 20% also was reported respectively for whey and sweet cream ice cream exports. The other products that historically enjoy a high place in overall Polish dairy exports are liquid milk, butter, cream, yogurt, casein and kefir.

Polish dairy products are sold mainly to EU countries. However, due to growing demand for dairy products in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Poland has recently substantially increased its exports of milk powder to Algeria and whey to China, Indonesia and Malaysia. In addition, there is a positive aspect in the still quite substantial growth of exports beyond the EU’s unified market. It is especially worth noting the large growth in the value of exports to Russia; the country was the third-biggest buyer of cheese from Poland last year, for example. Exports of Polish cheese to Ukraine doubled.

Polish milk products are manufactured from high quality milk and using the latest technology. Poland is a country of great tradition of milk and dairy production, dating back to as far as 19th century. Today, Polish milk and dairy industry represents the highest quality of the original ingredient and final products, state of the art technological lines, wide range of offered products and variety of flavors as well as attractive exporting options. Tags :

Skim Milk Powder is obtained by removing water from pasteurized skim milk and contains no added extra ingredients. It contains 5% or less moisture (by weight), 1.5% or less milk fat (by weight) and a minimum milk protein content of 34%. Skim Milk Powder is classified for use as an ingredient according to the heat treatment used in its manufacture. There are three main classifications: high-heat (least soluble), medium-heat, and low-heat (most soluble).

Spray-dried Skim Milk Powder is available in two forms: ordinary or non-agglomerated (non-instant) and agglomerated (instant).

The difference between Skim Milk Powder and Nonfat Dry Milk is that Skim Milk Powder’s protein can be adjusted to 34% by using milk retentate, milk Permeate or Lactose.
